Happy New Year! 🥳

Hello there Beauties!

Happy New Year my lovelies. I hope 2024 is full of good vibes, good news, love, joy, hope, and laughter.

Can you believe the year has ended already? I sure can’t. Even though in my lowest moments I wanted so bad for it all to be over, in retrospect, it feels like time “flew” by so fast.

In Introduction to Hispanic Literature, a course I did previously, one of the short stories we read and analyzed by Juan Manuel focused on ‘sight’ in its entirety: hindsight, foresight, and insight. The short story “Los Dos Ciegos” which means “The Two Blind Men” recounts the adventures of two blind men seeking a better life. One of the blind men who has been blind all his life convinces the other, who had sight but became blind, to go to another town using a shortcut with dangerous roads. The one who previously had sight told the other that the roads would be dangerous, but was convinced by the other that he would be safe with him. Subsequently, they both fell when they met the dangers of the road.

I don’t know why I recounted this entire story to make a point. Regardless, the point is that retrospect or hindsight is always 20/20. You look back at the would haves, could haves, and should haves, and you try to use those to determine your goals for the new year. However, I believe that hindsight works hand in hand with foresight and insight to facilitate change. I say this all to say that New Year’s Resolutions don’t work if your mindset and habits stay the same.

With that being said, nothing’s wrong with wanting a “new year, new you.” It’s in all of our best interests to use the hindsight of 2023’s misgivings and low moments, foresight of what to expect based on your current situation and habits, and insight into changing those habits, so our misgivings do not repeat themselves into the cycle of New Year’s Resolutions not making it past January.

May all your dreams come through in 2024. Here’s to the new year! 🥳🥂

QOTD: Do you believe in New Year’s Resolutions? I don’t quite believe in them myself, but I commit to taking care of my health, hair, and skin to the best of my ability.
