Live Boldly.
Hello there Beauties!
It has been a long while. I am honestly so drained; mentally, physically and emotionally. I am definitely exhausted. I just have so much to think about and worry about and overthink about and it has been hell.
However, I was up last night into this morning talking with my person and I remembered a very impactful message I heard back in 2019. My niece and I were invited to a conference in Montego Bay for a summer employment workshop. Terri-karelle was the speaker and she gave a very life-changing charge. The basis of her message was "Don't dumb yourself down/don't dim your light."
She stated that often times we do not put ourselves in the spotlight in fear of not fitting in, fear of being too "nuff" or "ups" as we say in Jamaican creole, or simply because we do not want the unnecessary attention. While all of these reasons are very much valid, she went on to say that we must not shrink ourselves to fit in anywhere. That will cost us so many opportunities, so many relationships, so much time.
Imagine being complimented for an achievement and in fear of sounding too "show off" or boastful, you downplay your accomplishment, or you take away the credit from yourself. That, in and of itself, is doing to yourself a great injustice. You worked hard, it is fair for your hard work to be acknowledged.
It is time for us as humans to toot our own horn without it sounding egotistical. Our accomplishments deserve to be recognized, especially when we work assiduously and sedulously. People are entitled to their own thoughts and opinions, but that should not be a deterrent o you celebrating yourself.
Please do not dim your light because someone else thinks it is too bright. Let them get sunglasses. Live your life as boldly, loudly, brilliantly and authentically as you can. You deserve to be applauded and complimented when you attain greatness in your work, or in your demeanor.
You deserve to be celebrated.
And if you happen to read this, answer this question:
QOTD: Are you a tooter of your own horn?
