Be Yourself
Hello there Beauties!
I almost didn’t write a post this week, but I promised myself consistency in at least one thing at the start of this year. This blog means a lot to me actually, it’s like the outlet of outlets for my amazing brain (and yes, I’m allowed to toot my own horn). Anyway, this week’s post was a sign because it showed up twice this past week and so I pretty much have to write about it.
I was scrolling through my Google Photos as one does, you know, deleting screenshots of quotes I don’t relate to anymore (I’m a sucker for quotes), and pictures I have no need for. Anyway, I saw this quote that said, “Be yourself. An original is worth more than a copy.” I hovered over the delete button, but I decided against it. Here’s why:
Being myself has always been hard. For years I struggled with wanting to be liked by everyone and wanting to fit in everywhere. Of course that didn’t work out because it’s not meant to happen. You know in those movies (like Mean Girls or The Clique) how the main female character keeps losing herself for the sake of fitting in? That’s how I felt. I’ve always been a little “too much” for the wrong people (before the grief), and after, it was another form of being “too much” for people who didn’t understand. What a hellhole.
Coincidentally, I was talking to my good friend T this week about maintaining who you are despite what others think, or circumstances that happen. Ts not easy, especially if you’re not everyone’s cup of tea. However, who you are at your core will attract the right people (friends, partners, colleagues, etc.). If you love who you are (that’s the first step) and you’re aware of the changes you need to make to be better (that’s the next step), then, the right people will come along. The right people will know you, love you, and see you. That’s a fact. I spoke about consideration being the highest form of love, but with great consideration comes acceptance. Acceptance is love without conditions.
We owe it to ourselves to be ourselves, unapologetically. Not only do we risk losing ourselves for the benefit of others, but we also risk not living our lives with 100% authenticity. Again, the right people will love the hell out of you when you show up as yourself.
As you move forward this week, remember to love yourself, be yourself, and accept yourself.
QOTD: In what ways will you show up as yourself this week?
Love from all ends,
Bella
